Special Operations Team
The Special Operations Team has one of the most important jobs next to putting out fires: preventing them!
Members of the team conduct inspections of all local businesses, advising them of hazards and corrective measures, and issuing occupancy permits when conditions are safe. The team also conducts specialty inspections at schools, day care facilities and even private residences. Our inspectors also work with Greene County Building to review all new commercial construction projects to ensure compliance with state & local fire codes. The Special Operations Team was instrumental in a very important law that requires all new commercial occupancies to be outfitted with Knox Boxes, allowing the fire department to use a secure key to gain access to the building. This is especially useful when alarm systems activate and investigation into the cause is required, but access is restricted. The Bellbrook Fire Department currently has 9 State of Ohio certified fire inspectors.

Members of the team also conduct post fire investigations. These investigations are to find out where and why the fire started, and if the fire was an accident of if the fire was set on purpose. Fire investigations can help the Consumer Product Safety Commission issue safety recalls for hazardous products. The Bellbrook Fire Department has four fire investigators, two of which are certified through the National Association of Fire Investigators.
The Special Operations Team also is responsible for departments technical rescue team. The STAR (Special Tactics and Rescue) team is trained in technical rescue diciplines. These include rope rescue, swiftwater rescue, trench rescue, and ice rescue. The STAR Team is headed up by Firefighter Andrew Fehskens.
